IHBC welcomes new English Parish Church online PG course

The Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture based in the University of York has launched a unique ‘History, Heritage and fabric of the English Parish Church’ online course at postgraduate level which has been welcomed by the IHBC.

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘This course would be a welcome addition to members’ CPD options as it offers specialist training and knowledge in the important field of the architectural conservation of ecclesiastical architecture’.

The course is aimed at the many professionals from different spheres who work with or for parish churches and who would like high-quality CPD, or just to expand and deepen their knowledge of the buildings with which they engage. It is being delivered by a range of experts from the academic world as well as professional practitioners such as architects and is being offered in modular entirely on-line form to fit around busy schedules.

Louise Hampton, Research and Impact Officer for The Centre for the Study of Christianity and Culture said: The idea has grown out of funding from the diocese of York to develop ways to help clergy deal with historic church buildings and see them as an asset for mission and the community, not as a money-draining millstone. It is unique, there is genuinely no other course like this anywhere, so it’s certainly ground-breaking!’
